What does "approximate location" mean on Archer?
Archer only shows an estimated location—never your exact address. Your avatar appears within a randomized radius (typically around 110 meters / within a few city blocks), which can be a bit off from your true spot. This helps you meet nearby users without exposing precise details.
How can I control whether I’m shown on the map at all?
You’re always in charge:
-
Profile > Safety > Location Display: toggle “ENABLE MAP DISPLAY” off
What steps does Archer take to protect my location data?
-
Archer does not sell your location data
- Locations are always blurred and we take steps to prevent revealing your exact coordinates
- In areas where being LGBTQ+ is illegal or risky, Archer may automatically disable map features for added safety
- We use anti-scraping and anti-triangulation techniques to prevent misuse of location data
Be aware when traveling
If you’re visiting a new area, know the local laws—in some places, LGBTQ+ identities and interactions are criminalized. Authorities may even use dating apps for entrapment.
-
Use caution in these regions: consider disabling map display completely
- Research through local LGBTQ+ or human rights organizations for safety tips
